UN Humanitarian Coordinator Predicts That a Second Aid Convoy to Gaza Might Result in Long-Term Relief
The United Nations is actively working on the possibility of dispatching a second convoy of trucks to enter Gaza tomorrow, aiming to implement a streamlined inspection process that will facilitate the continuation of relief deliveries through the upcoming week, according to UN humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths.
Griffiths shared in an interview at a Gaza-focused conference in Cairo, “This afternoon, I’ve received information, but we are currently in negotiations regarding it, suggesting that we might have another convoy as soon as tomorrow. This second convoy could potentially be larger, possibly consisting of 20 to 30 trucks.”
He emphasized the significance of maintaining a consistent flow of aid across the border, stating, “It is of utmost importance that we ensure there is no interruption in aid deliveries. What is critically required is our agreement, which we are actively discussing — engaging in tough yet fair negotiations with the Israelis — on establishing a verification mechanism.”

Griffiths further elaborated on the urgency of the situation, “Starting from tomorrow, we need to establish a nimble, effective, and possibly random inspection system that will not hinder the pace of relief operations. The situation is dire, with a significant number of people in distress. The healthcare system is in a state of collapse, and the supply of clean water is dwindling. People are left with no option but to consume contaminated water.”
The UN and its partners are committed to addressing these pressing issues and ensuring that relief efforts remain unhindered for the benefit of the vulnerable populations in Gaza.
